Formatting Text and Paragraphs Banner

   Adobe PageMill 3.0 is a WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") Web page editor. Whatever you type in the PageMill editing window is what will appear on a Web browser. PageMill makes it easy to format text and paragraphs using its many tool buttons on the toolbar.

Specifying Paragraph Format

To set the paragraph format, click the Paragraph Format pull-down menu Paragraph Pull-Down Menu on the toolbar, then select your desired paragraph format.

This is the Paragraph format.

This is the Preformatted format.
This is the Address format.
This is the Smallest Heading format.
This is the Smaller Heading format.

This is the Small Heading format.

This is the Large Heading format.

This is the Larger Heading format.

This is the Largest Heading format.

Specifying Style

To specify the style you want to use, click on the Style menu and click one of the style options. You can then continue to type. If you only want to use a specific style for only a word or a phrase, first highlight the word or words with your mouse, then click on the Style menu and select your style.

This is an example of Plain text.

This is an example of Bold.

This is an example of Italics.

This is an example of Underline.

This is an example of Teletype.

This is an example of Strong.

This is an example of Emphasis.

This is an example of Citation.

This is an example of Sample.

Specifying Paragraph Alignment

To specify how you want your text to align on the screen, click on the appropriate Paragraph Alignment button Alignment Button on the toolbar for left, center, or right alignment. If you want to only align a certain word or phrase, first highlight the word or words with your mouse, then specify the paragraph alignment.

This sentence is left aligned.

This sentence is center aligned.

This sentence is right aligned.

Indenting

You can also indent text by clicking on the indenting buttons on the toolbar. First, place your blinking cursor on the text you want to indent, then to indent right, click the Indent Right button Indent Right. To indent left, click the Indent Left button Indent Left.

Specifying the Font

To select the font you wish to use, click on the Font pull-down menu Font Pull-Down Menu on the toolbar and select a font. You can then proceed to type. If you only want to use a different font for only a word or a phrase, first highlight the word or words with your mouse, then click on the Font pull-down menu and select your font.

Please note: Fonts can be displayed differently on different computers and browsers. For instance, if people don't have the particular fonts that you've specified installed in their computers, then their browsers won't be able to display the fonts. For this reason, it is best to just stick with the default font.

Specifying the Relative Font Size

To choose the font size you want to use, click on the appropriate Relative Font Size buttons Font Size Button on the toolbar, then increase or decrease the size of a font. Click the down button to decrease the relative font size; click the up button to increase the relative font size. Begin typing. If you only want to use a specific font size for only a word or a phrase, first highlight the word or words with your mouse, then select the font size accordingly.

This is font size -2.

This is font size -1.

This is font size 0.

This is font size +1.

This is font size +2.

This is font size +3.

This is font size +4.

Specifying Font Color

To set the font color you would like to use, click on the Font Color button Font Color Button on the toolbar, then select a font color from the color window that opens. Click OK after you've selected the color for your fonts. If you only want to use a specific font color for only a certain word or phrase, first highlight the word or words with your mouse, then specify the font color as stated above.

Making Assorted Lists

Making lists can help us organize information in a sequential fashion using the list buttons on the toolbar. To make a list, click the Paragraph Format pull-down menu Paragraph Pull-Down Menu on the toolbar, then select your desired list. You can make six types of lists: Bullet, Directory, Menu, Numbered, Definition, and Term. Proceed to type in the data for each item. Press "RETURN" or "ENTER" to advance to the next item on a list.

This is a Bullet list.

This is a Directory list.

  • Item A
  • Item B
  • This is a Menu list.

  • This is a Numbered list.
